Potter Pictures
Potter Pictures was founded by Earl Potter in 2015, and it didn’t start with a film. It started with a PDF, lightweight by design, almost deceptively small, built to carry something heavy: the story of his father, legendary director H.C. Potter. Words. Old photographs. Home movies. A fragile archive of moments that could’ve disappeared if nobody built a vessel strong enough to hold them.
Then the universe did what it does when a story has mass: it pulled the right person into orbit. Artist and filmmaker Tim Harrier came in to talk about that PDF, read it, and then dove deeper, through boxes of images, reels of family footage, the raw material of a life. And when he surfaced, he looked at Earl and said it with absolute clarity: You don’t need a PDF. You need a documentary.
That was the ignition. One simple sentence that launched an 11-year collaboration and three films: H.C. Potter: A Son’s Story of His Theater and Film Career, A Five and Dime Story, and NMSA: A Story About a School’s Becoming, films that have premiered at festivals including the Santa Fe International Film Festival (SFiFF).
